The Slowest Monday That Ever Was

One day about a year ago, a coworker commented that it was “the slowest Monday that ever was”. I’m pretty sure he was right, btw, but that also inspired me to write this poem. It isn’t about anyone in particular…the words just sorta poured out on the page, and this is what was there when they were done!

It’s the slowest Monday that ever was
Since you left me last weekend “just because”
Just because you were bored, just because you were scared
Just because I happened to show how much I cared

It’s the slowest Monday that ever was
Since you left me last weekend and took away your love
Thank God for this slow Monday, I hope it lasts all week
It’s better than facing the truth of your defeat

I’m glad for this slow Monday, this never-ending start
Because when the weekend shows, you’ll see my broken heart
