I wish I could read the story of us
An impartial version I could actually trust
A third person account of our days and our nights
An objective description of each wrong and right

I would bookmark pages in the story of us
Moments to remember – those of fury and lust
Whole chapters on lovers, whole sections on sin
Joys to rediscover, heartbreak to wallow in

I wish that we could edit the story of us
And make our amends before it’s printed up
Or at least write notes within each margin
So revisions are there, but just penciled in

I wonder if I’d shelve the story of us
Would I put it on display, or just pack it up?
Or would I leave it open, with pages still blank
So we both could fill in what we actually think?
